A piece of unadulterated Bamberg is preserved at the Mahrs-Bräu in the Wunderburg district South of the Dom Mountain.
The Michel family has owned the Mahrs-Bräu brewery since 1880. The owners have done a wonderful job preserving the original atmosphere of the building. The tavern is rustic and features a masonry stove, wainscot paneling, as well as narrow tables and benches – all rarities in this day and age. The featured meals are also rustic and include fresh breads and brats. The homemade beer is on tap straight from the oak casks. If you want to, you can take some home with you as long as you bring your own beer mug. In the summer months, the beer garden is shaded and kept cool by giant chestnut trees.
